Gladys.
What could be more stupid than knocking down a perfectly good stadium without enough money for the rebuild. I suppose you could build a light rail that the auditor assesses would only return 80C for every dollar spent. When the cost doubles so that it only returns 40C you could always claim that you could not foretell the underground infrastructure that drove costs up, even though ground penetrating radar could have sorted that.
What a good idea it was the buy land for Badgery’s creek airport for ten times its assessed value from a Liberal party donor, or what about agreeing to buy badly contaminated land for Parramatta light rail at Camellia for $53.5 million when the land was found to be “worthless”, valued at negative $3 million to $7 million dollars, according to PWC. The land was bought from Billbergia whose CEO is a major liberal party donor.
And what about their wonderful handling of the Covid. I wonder how many people died from the Covid infected passengers let ashore from the Ruby Princess or how about the Covid infected aircrew that were allowed to enter NSW without quarantine.
I will stop: Percy Allan a former NSW liberal state treasurer has given has given the state “A tick for economic management.”(SMH March 25). His article is disarmingly honest but quite alarming. “….net debt will jump from $19 billion in 2019-20 to $92billion by 2022-23. The state will need to begin budget repair next financial year and to sell more assets , such as its share in WestConnex.” More dosh for their mates at Macquarie bank I guess.
Even more alarming and, mysteriously not commented on, is the fact that Peter Costello a former Liberal treasurer is now CEO of the Herald and chanel 9. One of the first objects of conservatives (and fascists)is to control the press. Darling Rupert is already on board so now the two major newspapers (Herald and the Australian) and a major TV station are controlled by the born to rule minority. How long will it be before the propaganda ramps up or is that already happening?
The tragedy is that we have no confidence that labour would do any better. Even more tragic is the loss of faith in our allegedly superior democratic system of government. I confess to find the dilemma quite depressing.
