Sad but true. It’s all for the cars (4WDs). The dollars are “literally plowed into the mountain” by way of bulldozer all for the sake of parking. This new road will make access easier for the people going to the new proposed lodge to park directly under the lodge. No need to be exposed to the elements. Although I believe no-one is allowed to develop further without providing car parking spaces. Further down the road, the bulldozers continue to provide more spaces for staff parking etc. What about parking and providing transport from the bottom of the hill at Harrietville and providing employment and money to the local towns at the same time?
CRIKEY: This is one of the problems of have a commercial enterprise situated in a fragile alpine national park, but who is ultimately responsible? The RMB for their greed? Or Victoria’s minister for the environment, John Thwaites? With the mountain cattleman currently under fire for the impact made by grazing, it’s a wonder the bulldozers are given such free rein.
