A mining company employee writes:
I have no doubt that various governments are going to cop the blame for the fact that the coast of Australia is soon to become the world’s biggest ship’s parking lot. Sea traffic controllers will be working overtime to prevent cargo behemoths colliding with each in the mayhem caused by the constipation of our ports and railways.

This situation has been in the wind for a while, and I would like to shift the blame to where it really belongs – the resource companies.

Who better to know what the infrastructure requirements would be to shift their product than the companies that produce it? They are the ones most responsible for providing their own infrastructure, albeit with cooperation from governments and taxpayers. But what have they done about it? The ‘Big 2’ in particular have been recording huge profits for years, and what have they done with this money? It certainly isn’t being invested back into the communities from which it is earned, nor is it being spent to improve the future of their business through major infrastructure improvements, apart from some port upgrades in the west.
