It’s nice to know where Eddie McGuire is coming from. Viewers of the
Nine
Network’s AFL Footy Show last night in Melbourne and other southern states saw the full-on Eddie,
while
we in the deep north had to read his amazing spray in The Australian or wait up to past our bedtimes on Nine. Sleep is more preferred than
Eddie’s
raves, so I read The Australian.

Here are some choice bits from Eddie’s editorial last night:

“Let there be no mistake, yesterday’s announcement by channels Seven and Ten
to
join forces was a bold bid for the television rights and it is obviously
also a
deliberate effort to knock Channel Nine out cold, out of the auction for
the
next round of television rights,” McGuire said in a prepared statement read
on The Footy Show.

“This is also a major push to get the rights at bargain-basement prices,
which
will happen if Channel Nine is out of the game and out of the auction.”

Crocodile tears Eddie. Nine made The Footy Show into a cult when Seven had the AFL rights and wouldn’t allow any vision to
be
used. Seven couldn’t and still can’t make a Footy Show style program work. The rave last night was unbecoming. He’s made sure
he
won’t be a commentator should Nine lose the battle for the free to air
TV
rights.

Can Collingwood afford to keep him should Seven and Ten win?
