Riding Tokyo’s packed commuter train system can be a seminal experience. According to the Asahi Shimbun, one packed commuter line which is infamous for its “groper assaults” has added ‘women-only’ cars to its morning rush-hour trains in an attempt to “ease female riders’ fears of being pinched or fondled.”

And on the same theme, The London Timesreports that a Tokyo blogger has written a “step-by-step guide to grabbing a newly vacated seat on overcrowded tube trains”, including tips like: watch out for snoozers, stand next to their seat but not directly in front, leave a passage for them to get to the door and for you to block seat predators from the reverse angle.
