What’s the big secret at the Seven
Network? On Thursday night as Sydney newsreader, Ian Ross
read that Seven management had apologised for the 40 minute-plus outage in the middle of
Blue Heelers on Wednesday night, there were shots, taken at night, of a building, which he referred to as “our broadcast centre”.
There was no mention during the 20-second read with pictures that the
offending broadcast centre, was based in Melbourne, and that the outage
happened there in the central broadcasting area. Isn’t it strange that
the network in Sydney is reluctant to admit it is really run from
Melbourne?
The blackout clearly didn’t happen
in Sydney, although Seven has not thought to keep the small backup at the old
Epping facilities in Sydney operational since the
move to Martin
Place and Jones Bay
Wharf last
year. Seven insiders say the small Epping
back up could have handled Sydney and perhaps
Brisbane
signals, but not the whole network.
