It appears the battle for
the Liberal pre-selection for the Victorian state seat of Scoresby is
over and front bencher Kim Wells will be returned. Pressure has been
intense on “young turk” Michael Gidley to withdraw from the contest,
Liberal sources say.

But will Wells be grateful? There are clearly concerns that he is
inadequate and unfocused. And he became a proxy for the Victorian
Liberals’ wobbly leader, Robert Doyle. The powers-that-be called in all
the favours they could to save Wells from a humiliating defeat. Does he
appreciate what has been done to save him, other Liberals want to know?
