We asked on Friday whether Sky News was serious about covering business. Since the departure of David Koch and the Palamedia mob – and the non-appearance of stand-in host Michael Pascoe – the Monday to Friday Business Report has become a joke because of the inexperience of the people involved. Sky says it will limp on with the present situation for the next few months and rethink before a re-launch of sorts later in the year.

Well don’t hold your breath is what I’ve heard from TV land. Pascoe, the most logical successor with credibility, won’t get the gig because he’s not favoured by the Nine Network. Sam Chisholm, a former Nine boss and current PBL director, is chairman of Sky and the word is the network doesn’t want Pascoe.

The present stand-in host is 21-year-old Brooke Forster and she’s all at sea when it comes to experience and understanding business. The interviews she’s currently doing on the Business Report don’t do her any favours. But she’s just been given a new two-year contract with more money. Sky needs to earn its money back. Other experienced staffers have quit, leaving the young but inexperienced group now at the program. It’s not their fault, it’s the penny-pinching Sky board. But for Foxtel viewers, it’s not good news. They should get a refund.
