Police
gangland investigations into a Metro City night club shooting in Perth on
23 January, and alleged phone links between a known criminal placed at the
crime scene and two Eagles players on the night has the state in uproar. That
night one man was shot and another stabbed, and police alleged this week that
Eagles players Cousins and Gardiner spoke to a man charged with disposing of the gun used in
the shooting, just before and just after the fight.
Then
earlier this week on legal advice from their lawyer, Cousins and Gardiner
refused to answer police questions regarding the alleged calls, and that’s when
Perth went into
community meltdown. Yesterday,
even Premier Geoff Gallop – himself a keen Eagles fan – entered the fray and
urged both players to cooperate, as he said it was the duty of all WA residents
to help police investigate crimes.
