Rene Rivkin will be cremated in Sydney
today, an event that will be more notable for who among his long list
of clients, current and former, and friends, current and former, show
up to signal their support. And whether notables like Trevor Kennedy,
Graham Richardson, any of the Packer camp, Ray Martin and Alan Jones
appear.
In today’s Sydney Morning Herald, Rivkin’s son, Damian, writes:
Since my father’s passing, your reporting has continued to
refer to the fire at Offset Alpine printing press as mysterious, laying
the foundation for a series of grubby implications.I
am unsurprised at your failure to mention the recent police
investigation’s findings that there was no evidence of arson and that
the fire was probably caused by the still burning embers of the
employees’ Christmas barbeque.Again, you have chosen to report the unlikely (but sensational) rather than the probable (but mundane) explanation.
Although
my father couldn’t expect such journalistic integrity in his lifetime,
on behalf of my family I implore you to practise it now.Damian Rivkin Rushcutters Bay.
Over at The Australian they were reporting “No peace for Rivkin as taxman moves in”.
