I think you missed half the story in that memo about Tom O’Byrne. His proposal to go to the BBC to “investigate the proposed overhaul of the BBC News structure and examine change management strategies employed to achieve the transition” involves a massive euphemism.

The BBC is undergoing job cuts involving the sudden unemployment of several thousand people – several hundred coming from the News and Current Affairs Departments. It’s part of the crawling to the government the BBC was forced to do after the Hutton Report. If Tom’s going to study that sort of change management, it could be a bad omen for ABC News and Current Affairs.
