Greg Hunt, the Member for Flinders, is
one of the Coalition’s Bright Young Things. He’s a former adviser to
Alexander Downer who took over Peter Reith’s seat in 2001, and serves
as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for the Environment and
Heritage.
But that’s not enough for this young man in hurry, it seems. His local paper, The Mail,
carries an interesting report in its current issue. “A bid to change
the sometimes misleading title of parliamentary secretary is unlikely
to succeed, according to Greg Hunt, MP for Flinders, who has been
seeking support for the move… Mr Hunt and New South Wales MP Pat
Farmer, also a parliamentary secretary, distributed a memo and
organised a meeting in Canberra to gain support for a new title such as
vice-minister, junior minister or associate minister.”
“The idea was to make the title more user-friendly so people better understand the role and its responsibilities,” The Mail quoted Hunt as saying. And to make the job sound posher, Greg?
Bruce
Billson, the Member for the neighbouring electorate of Dunkley and
Parliamentary Secretary to Hunt’s old boss Lex, seems unimpressed by
his colleagues’ push. “Frankly, I’ve been busy on other things and not
focussing on my own tag,” he’s quoted as saying.
