Anyone who doubted the North Queensland Cowboys could win the 2005 NRL
premiership must surely have had those doubts erased by their absolute smashing
of the well performed Cronulla Sharks on Saturday night. And while the rise and rise of the Cowboys as serious title contenders
is good news for fans in league mad North Queensland, it’s particularly good
news for indigenous communities in the north and west of the state.
Today the Blues and Maroons teams for Origin Two will be named. The Cowboys had a record six players in Origin One and it’s
safe to assume they will have the same number in Origin Two. It’s an extraordinary achievement for the club long regarded as the
“junior” to the Broncos in Queensland to have more Origin players than the
Broncos.
