In what sounds like a fascinating interview with outgoing Commonwealth Bank boss David Murray, coming up on Sunday’s Inside Business
on ABC TV, Murray reveals that he was in discussions with Telstra to be
its CEO if it couldn’t find the right telco executive for the job.
Murray says that Telstra’s preference was for someone with telephone
company experience – which it eventually found in Sol Trujillo. But in
the interview, Murray apparently indicates that if Telstra couldn’t
find the right person from within the telco industry, he was the
fallback candidate for the job.
