Its official: Tony Squires and Rebecca Wilson are back together (at work). For at least the third time in their careers they have paired up, this time at FM rock/talk radio station Nova, after gigs together at the ABC TV sports chat show The Fat, which moved to the Seven Network and bombed as 110% Tony Squires.
Tone and Rebecca (the record-holder for the shortest appearance on the Nine Network’s NRL Footy Show) will do the drive segment for both the new stations in Sydney and Melbourne. The appointments were announced yesterday, following ex-ABC 702 announcer Angela Catterns’s defection to Sydney Nova.
Is this deal why Tony Squires was so engrossed in his lunchtime mobile phone conversation at Sydney’s trendy Malaya restaurant on Tuesday? Certainly his attractive younger companion was remarkably tolerant as Tone’s mobile rang at regular intervals. A bit of last minute polishing of the contract?
Tone stays contracted to the Seven Network, where his only recent gigs have been the occasional host spots for one-day cricket and the like. And Wilson is a sports columnist with News Ltd at the Daily and Sunday Telegraphs in Sydney, as well as appearing on a Triple M sports program, a gig she now gives up.
