The Washington Post has been scooped on Deep Thr*at again. USA Today has stumbled across a copy of Bob Woodward’s new book, The Secret Man, The Story of Watergate’s Deep Thr*at, in a suburban Washington bookshop almost a week ahead of its release next Wednesday.

the book, Woodward reveals that Mark Felt, the former top FBI official
who has been outed as Deep Thr*at, was “motivated by a desire to
protect the FBI, disgust with the Nixon White House, reverence for
former FBI Director J Edgar Hoover and the thrill of ‘the game’.”
According to USA Today,
Woodward also writes that a former Justice Department official figured
out in 1976 that Felt had been Deep Thr*at, but never told anyone but
Woodward of his conclusion.
