Before going to Western Australia to report on the state election last February, I visited the websites of all the WA parties in search of information. The ALP and the Liberals both offered a service to get regular email briefings during their campaigns, so I signed up for both.

The ALP emails duly arrived each day with routine but occasionally interesting information that I sometimes quoted. As for the Liberals, no emails ever appeared. This seemed symptomatic of its campaign, although I didn’t mention it in my reports – basically a reluctance to kick people when they’re down.

But, lo and behold, yesterday morning an email appeared with the heading “News from Liberal Party, West Australian Division.” It’s not a thrilling read, but it’s no worse than most party newsletters. No explanation, however, for why they’ve started four months after the election.
