Today sees a storm of comment on Industrial Relations (IR) reform,
encouraged by the prime minister’s early return from leave, presumably
having cashed out his missing leave days. Henry Thornton covers the
main points in the debate and reports the result of a survey of Henry’s
(upmarket) subscribers. “Henry’s readers currently put industrial
relations only fifth in the list of economic issues of importance to
Australia, behind tax, infrastructure, housing and the CAD.” See Henry’s Blog.
And for foreign policy wonks, Henry recently attended a talk by
Alexander Downer and his conclusion is this: “Overall, an impressive
speech from a minister totally on top of his subject. I just wish
he didn’t invariably look like a clever boy who has just got away with
a successful raid on the lolly jar.” Henry’s full report is here.
