Max Uechtritz isn’t just persona non grata at Nine, he’s also unwanted at the ABC. His old mate John Cameron, the ABC’s head of news, didn’t appreciate the way Max bagged the ABC while he was at Nine.
ABC boss Russell Balding is also a non-believer because of the public comments Uechtritz made about the ABC coverage in the hours following the Pope’s death and the Sea King chopper crash in April. That was when Max sent this email which was reported in various media outlets: “I was ashamed of my old outfit… from 5:30 to 9 o’clock I kept switching over to see if the national broadcaster was finally servicing its taxpayers. Nyet, nein, non. A disgrace. We can be thankful, I guess, about Sandra Levy’s unwillingness to break schedule for anything these days.”
Those and other public comments disparaging the ABC haven’t helped Uechtritz’s stocks at the national broadcaster, where an internal news re-organisation being driven by John Cameron will change the structure that Max presided over.
