The news that Braith Anasta will join the Roosters next year will
surprise no-one in rugby league, but it has already led to speculation as to why
he decided to switch from being a Bulldog to a Rooster.

I admire Anasta for being entirely up front about he reasons for
leaving the Bulldogs, rejecting an apparently significantly higher offer from
the South Rabbitohs, and joining the Roosters. His main reason is that he wants to be coached by Ricky Stuart.

I believe we have to accept Anasta’s reasons at face value. What he
didn’t say was that he saw a better post-rugby league future being
secured by his
decision as well. And who can blame him, given that he celebrated his
signing last night
over dinner with the Roosters’ hierarchy, including James Packer!

Rugby league players today are professional sportsmen. As such they
surely have the freedom to choose where they want to pursue their professional
career. Braith Anasta clearly believes he will be an even better player than he
already is if he’s coached by Ricky Stuart. (And his performance in Origins
One and Two surely make him one of the best players in the game as it is).
