Wednesday’s Reader had an interesting link to an interview with Andrew Gowers, the editor of the Financial Times.

The interview, by website Iwantmedia.com, had its moments, though there was little discussion about the FT‘s drop in circulation in the UK. There were rumours earlier this year that the paper could be for sale when a couple of Pearson shareholders pushed for the company to jettison loss-making assets, like the FT.

But the interview with Gowers did contain this exchange:

Iwantmedia: The FT has experimented with publishing a tabloid edition for special reports. Would the FT consider abandoning its broadsheet format as a number of other newspapers have done?

Gowers: We have no plans to go tabloid, for a host of good reasons. In my view the tabloid format dumbs journalism down – it oversimplifies complex issues and emphasises froth over substance.

So what does that say about the tabloid Australian Financial Review?
