On discovering that Jane Roberts (nee Sullivan), the wife of George Bush’s Supreme Court nominee John Roberts, went to Melbourne University, we decided to fire up a list of famous foreigners who’ve been educated Down Under.
Sadly, there hasn’t exactly been a deluge of names but we do have three to kick things off before the names of a few “sons and daughters of Asian billionaires” come in to smayne@crikey.com.au.
Dolph Lundgren: The Swedish star of Rocky IV and Universal Soldier was awarded a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Sydney. You can check it out at his official site here.
Mel Gibson: Born in New York in 1956, the Mad Max star came to Australia in 1968 and graduated in 1977 from NIDA, which is attached to the University of NSW. Now almost a billionaire who lives in California. Friends of NIDA in America was founded with a grant from Gibson.
Hotman Paris Hutapea: The gun-totin’, Mercedes-drivin’ Corby-defendin’ Indonesian hotshot lawyer learnt all he needs to know at summer schools at Monash and Melbourne University, plus a law degree from Sydney’s UTS.
