history-loving, smooth-as-silk political operator who can write and
talk with aplomb? Here are some of today’s tips and rumours:

Run Westfield in America:
My “source close to Bob Carr” tells me that he will be taking up a role
in the US within 12 months. The role? Heading up the Westfields
operation for the Lowy boys. And, just so you know, no my source is not
Triple M (it was me that mentioned this on the radio this morning). My
source is Carr’s nephew, an ol’ uni mate of mine now living in
California. – Crikey reader
An ecology or UN job in London: When
Bob Carr was in London recently he went for a job interview and will be
announcing his appointment in about three months time. It’s rumoured to
be an international job to do with ecology. – Crikey reader
CEO of Fairfax:
An hour after Carr’s resignation Fairfax deputy chairman Ron Walker
lunched with Fairfax CEO Fred Hilmer at Sydney’s Machiavelli restaurant
– cooking up a successor? – The Australian’s Strewth column
