The Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICA) recently began an
advertising campaign to differentiate “Chartered Accountants” from
their presumably lesser brethren in the institute of Certified
Practising Accountants (CPA). In its press release of 21 June the
ICA states:

In any industry category there are always competitors
aiming to get across messages about how their brand is different from
the competition. Our approach is no different. The vast majority of
members have called for improved differentiation.

If, as reported, Steve Vizard’s “accountant” is a practising member of the
ICA and national chairman of Bentleys MRI Australia, I
would encourage the ICA to continue its campaign of differentiation of
the designation CA from CPA. As a CPA I would like it to be clear to the general public that the
term “accountant ” is a generic title and that the above matter is no
reflection on members of CPA Australia.
