Nigel
Milan, the head of SBS, has stepped down less than six months after his five-year tenure was extended for another year by the
SBS board. It’s
not known where Milan is headed, though the CEO role at
Nine is still vacant.
Milan worked for Nine back in the late 80s when, for a brief time, he
ran the Network’s Radio Division, under Sam Chisholm. His
wife was also an executive at Nine in the late 80s and
early 90s – but a
role at Nine is thought unlikely.
The
best two contenders for the Nine job are Guy Dunstan, an ABC executive who has more than 20 years experience working in
the media, including five years at the News Corp owned Star TV in
Asia, and
Patrick Delaney, a senior executive at
Foxtel, who’s the right age in his early 40s and is
known to Chisholm. Here’s
some background from The Age:
Delaney, 42, manages several dimensions of Foxtel. He is executive director of content, product and
delivery, oversees the dozens of channels that are not produced in-house,
manages the network’s studio facilities, and ensures that its satellite and
cable networks are in step with the latest technological developments. With 130
channels and more than a million subscribers, 60% of whom have converted
to digital, Foxtel is an incredibly complex business
to manage.
