Sydney ABC morning presenter Sally Loane
is playing the stiff upper lip over her departure at the end of the
month. Apart from the brief mention of emails on Monday morning, Sal
played it straight on her show, except for one, nicely pointed musical
commentary, courtesy of Australian band Jet and its hit “Look what
you’ve done.” That’s the one which starts:

Take my photo off the wall
If it just won’t sing for you
‘Cause all that’s left has gone away
And there’s nothing there for you to prove
Oh, love what you’ve done
You’ve made a fool out of everyone.

Sal’s
departure will end more than six years at 702. She’s the latest to go
amid the sort of turmoil you’d expect at a private radio station run
by, say, John Singleton, not the national broadcaster.

After losing Angela Catterns to Vega, they’ve now lost another high
profile female presenter. When you have to change one part of the
schedule, you don’t want to be making another audience-alienating move
elsewhere at the same time. And, conducting on-air auditions for
Catterns’s replacement – they’re up to three now, none of whom will get
the job – is not a good look or sound.
