Is Paul Barry about to depart from 60 Minutes?
Word from Nine is that he is, but it’s not known if this also means he
leaves the Nine Network entirely, as he was an appointment three years
ago driven by PBL CEO, John Alexander, when he was head of PBL Media.
Barry was first appointed to A Current Affair with a provision in his contract that he could move to 60 Minutes during the three year deal.
That move took place last year and now his contract is up. A possibility could be the Today Show, where there’s a looming gap, back to A Current Affair
to host, or work on another program, if he’s to remain at Nine.
Meanwhile, the departure of a respected researcher from ACA, Sarah
Stinson, for rival Today Tonight at Seven, has caused waves on the program.
Some staff have objected to the way she was treated by being allowed to work at ACA instead
of the usual walk straight out the door approach that’s typical in TV.
Having been ‘departed’ by Nine on the spot, I think that the way
Stinson was treated is preferable. By all accounts, the farewell last
Friday was a robust affair with disputes over a cake, and a couple of
speeches, including one forceful one by Hurley.
