“I am pleased to announce the first round
of grants for the Greater Western Sydney region under the National Community
Crime Prevention Programme (NCCPP),” a press release from the Prime Minister
began on Monday.
“The successful projects will assist the community of Greater Western Sydney to
directly address crime and the fear of crime in their local area.”
It then went on to say “Eight worthy
projects have been selected by my colleague, Senator the Hon. Chris Ellison,
Minister for Justice and Customs, taking into account the Advisory Group’s
recommendations.”
So, here’s the PM pinching a good news
story from a junior minister. Them’s the breaks. Suburban Sydney has been
very successfully colonised by John Howard Liberals.
“The successful programmes cover a diverse
range of community activity,” the release continued. “All are excellent examples
of the Western Sydney community taking action to fight the causes of crime and fear of
crime in their own neighbourhoods.”
And one of them is “Hillsong Emerge Ltd –
Greater Blacktown Community Partnership Youth project – $414,479 (Community
Partnership Stream). A project to engage and empower residents throughout the Blacktown local
government area to address and implement crime prevention strategies through
community enhancement…”
And guess who used to work for Hillsong
Emerge? Louise Markus,
the first-ever Liberal Member for Greenway,
the Sydney
suburban seat that, yes, takes in a good bit of Blacktown.
Still, with God on their side at least the
program should be successful.
