In a big surprise Seven News and Today Tonight beat Nine News and A Current Affair in Melbourne. That will rattle Nine’s cage. Both Seven programs of course again won Sydney. Nine’s duo won Brisbane, but Seven won both slots in Adelaide and Perth. It was a surprise in Melbourne given the AFL Grand Final and the way the AFL Footy Show performed late in the night. The ABC News and The 7.30 Report both did more than a million viewers each in another solid outing for a Thursday night. |

Nine with 34.5% to Seven with 27.0% to Ten with 17.2%, just in front of the ABC with 16.1% and SBS with 5.3%. Nine leads the week from Seven. |

Glenn Dyer’s comments |
Seven’s countered Nine’s AFL Footy Show grand final effort by running a bit dead with its programming last night from 8.30pm, thereby confusing us all. Las Vegas was broadcast in only Sydney and Brisbane. Cirque du Soleil from 8:30 to 10:30pm and Alias 10:30pm-12:30am in southern markets of Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. The Footy Show (AFL) pre-empted Nine’s regular 8:30-9:30pm programming in those southern markets. The Footy Show audience nationally was 1.435 million, with most of that the AFL variety. The NRL version started 9.30pm in Sydney and Brisbane where it did OK. The NRL Grand Final will start at 8.30pm in Sydney and Brisbane next week. Tonight, will Survivor Guatemala do better than last week’s effort of just over a million, without an AFL final up against it? Nine is hoping so, Seven is wondering, and Ten will see its Friday night audience ease, but the movie My Best friend’s Wedding might be a good stopper. The Grand Final means daytime viewing is Ten’s tomorrow and its News will do well at 6pm (with the Grand Final as a lead-in) and Ten in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth will bask in the slowly fading glory of the Grand Final tomorrow night. But in Sydney and Brisbane Nine will rule because of the Wests Tigers-St George Preliminary Final tomorrow night. Nine’s week. |
