Another
no show by Julie McCrossin, the new breakfast
announcer for ABC 702 in Sydney Monday morning, the second time in as
many mornings that she’s missed her shift.

McCrossin was a no show on Friday
morning and it seems she may not be back until midweek. 702’s
weekend announcer, Simon Marnie, filled in on Friday
morning and this morning to give himself a long weekend and some unexpected time
in a shift that he was a contender for.

Friday’s no show (she rang in sick) was on the last day
of her fourth week in the chair where she replaced, after a tortuous process,
Angela Catterns.

McCrossin’s performances have
gradually improved, but at times she has sounded a little uncertain, especially
with news stories. She sounds like
she’s been thoroughly ‘Gellerised”
by the US radio consultant used by ABC Radio
management, Valerie Geller.

Meanwhile October 24 has been revealed at the start date
in the 702 morning show for Virginia Trioli, the
Melbourne drive announcer who has been airlifted to Sydney to replace the
(again, eventually) Sally Loane.

Trioli is familiarising herself with Sydney and the way 702 operates at the moment,
but the exact dimensions of her shift have yet to be revealed. In
Melbourne and
elsewhere breakfast finished at 7.45 am when there’s
news and then AM. The morning shift starts at 8.30 am. In Sydney the start has been
9 am and ABC radio people say that’s the plot.

But
that isn’t set in stone as yet and could very well change.
