While Helen Clark is set to hang on as New Zealand’s Prime Minister, the Kiwis have lost their only Rastafarian MP.
Green
Nandor Tanczos missed out on returning to parliament as the Greens’
seventh list MP by just 1,246 votes after the special votes were
counted. Kiwi news website Stuff has marked the sad occasion with the headline: “Rasta la vista, baby.”
And,
yes, Tanczos has really made these comments: “My biggest disappointment
is that we did not complete cannabis law reform. There are 20,000
cannabis convictions a year and it’s an absolute waste of police and
court time and young people’s lives, for what is essentially just a
herb.”
PS: Marks to Stuff, too, for a cute cartoon on our Prime Minister and his foreign policy.
