Since the Federal Government seems to be
quite happy to recognise same-sex terror suspects – but not average, law
abiding citizens – the Australian Coalition for Equityhas put together a detailed set of fact sheets on some of the major issues.
Recently, the issues of unfair treatment of
same-sex couples and families has been raised at a Senate inquiry into Medicare
safety nets by the ACE, supported with a supplementary submission by the
Australian Consumers Association. It is also Australian Medical Association’s policy
to remove such legal discriminations against gay and lesbian families.
And while it’s nice to see that the Commonwealth
is prepared to recognise same sex terrorists, it’s probably worth asking why gay
families cop such a raw deal when across the Tasman or back in the mother country
gays and lesbians are allowed to register their civil unions and be recognised
before the law.
