Queensland Libs at it again: Our pals from
the Queensland Libs held their annual general meeting over the weekend, amidst
embarrassment over road funding and all sorts of financial fun. Most spectacular of all was the no-show
yesterday of their new president, former Senator Warwick Parer. Given he
nominated 50 days before to the event, one would have thought he might have kept
the diary free – unless a nap or the lawn bowls beckoned. A conference review
is available from Online Opinion.
Gay’s OK, but p*ssed and gay?: Even Liberal
ladies in lavender know they need to field the odd gay
candidate nowadays, but Victorian MLC Andrew Olexander was bound to go down in
flames at the weekend preselection after crashing a car and blowing over the limit –
even with the support of leader Robert Doyle. But why didn’t Doyle know this?
Perhaps the real question is why Doyle is still leader.
Bruised Cheek: More Tassie Liberal fun, courtesy
of former leader Bob Cheek’s comments on pollies’ perks from his Latham-like
diaries published in the Tasmanian Times. Even more spectacular is the story of a black
eye that gives a new meaning to the rough and tumble of politics.
