Misha Schubert from The Age may have let us know what the PM was reading this summer,
but Crikey subscribers’ superior psychological skills have given us an
insight into what more members of the Cabinet are possibly working
their way through:
- Peter Costello: Beckett – Waiting for Godot
- Philip Ruddock: Kafka – The Trial
- Tony Abbott: du Maurier – The Birds
- Amanda Vanstone: Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.
The rest of the ministry either can’t read (Nats) or are only
semi-literate – but we shouldn’t forget the great minds of the
opposition. Kimbo is probably ploughing through the prolix but proud
Proust – In Search Of Lost Time – while Kruddy is spending the holidays in Greeneland with The Quiet American.
Barnaby Joyce seems to be an unlikely Jane Austen fan. We gather he’s preoccupied by Pride and Prejudice.
But we refuse to believe a publishing industry rumour that
Tony Vanstone has refused offers of substantial advances to document
his homelife ever since discovering the title There’s A Hippopotamus On My Roof Eating Cake was taken.
