The SMH story is part of a follow-up to a Daily Telegraph scoop yesterday that the M5’s pollution assessments were done on half the number of cars actually using the smog machine. But wait, there’s more – the extra traffic in the four-kilometre tunnel could make the government liable for a $14 million compensation payment to the operators.
Meanwhile The SMH reports the RTA is trying to keep the pollution levels in the M5 within legal limits by slowing the traffic entering the tunnel. As anyone who has driven through the lung-clogging haze in peak hour knows, the crawl just prolongs the suffering.
But don’t worry – as long as you have a decent climate control system in your limo, you can substantially limit the NSW Government’s stink reaching your nostrils – and just revel in your own.
