Lachlan Carter’s call, on behalf of four AWB executives, for Cole to get Federal ministers in the stand was
certainly something the Labor Party supported. Surprise, surprise,
Lachy is a former Labor staffer who worked for Joan Kirner’s Attorney
General Jim Kennan in the early 1990s.
As you know the
IR Minister Kevin Andrews has been
beating the drum long and loud about how great the IR changes and AWAs
are. I have it on good authority that at least one of the Department’s
mailboxes in Sydney was not cleared for a number of weeks until
yesterday or the day before. God knows how many AWAs were in there.
Personally I am spewing because AWAs take up to months to get
registered and mine is one of the affected ones. I can’t get my pay
rise until it gets registered. If it had remained un-detected until
next Monday the consequences would have been even worse. Every single
stranded AWA would have to have been re-executed because the new
regulations take effect on Monday.
