Christian Kerr writes:
The boy can’t help it. There was Tony
Abbott, leading for the Government in the Matter of Public Importance debate
yesterday afternoon, banging on about those famous L-A-W law tax cuts that
never materialised.
But what about the millions spent on the
Government’s “protected by law” industrial relations advertisements last week –
let alone the matching booklets explaining how we’d all be better off in the
wonderful world of WorkChoices, most of which are rotting in warehouses at
public expense.
The Government always likes harking back to
Paul Keating’s L-A-W law tax cuts. But what about John Howard’s pledge from
1996? “Under no circumstances will a Howard Government
create a wages system that will cause the take home pay of Australians to be
cut,” he said.
“Under a Howard Government you cannot be worse off, but you can be better off.
I give this rock solid guarantee our policy will not cause a cut in the take
home pay of Australian workers.”
Pay and conditions protected by law? Sounds
like L-A-W law.
