Crikey editor Misha Ketchell writes:

News Corporation’s decision to appoint Rupert Murdoch’s friend,
Jose Maria Aznar, to its board of directors was dutifully heralded
yesterday in the Murdoch press, but had Aznar been reading The Australian yesterday he might’ve thought twice about joining a news organisation incapable of getting even the basic facts right.

The Australian described Jose Maria Aznar as a Spain’s former president, which might have been correct if Spain actually had a president.
Instead Spain is a parliamentary monarchy that settles for a King and a prime minister – the latter
being the office occupied by Aznar between 1996 and 2004.

I’m pointing this out to correct the record because, unfortunately,
Crikey was guilty of parroting this mistake yesterday. We should have
known better, as should The Australian. It’ll be interesting to see if the Oz also fesses up in its corrections section. For the sake of Rupert and Jose’s friendship, let’s hope so.
