In The Australian‘s report on the
Nine Network’s blocking of any further publication of the Mark
Llewellyn affidavit, it carried this intriguing paragraph:

“On Sunday, the affidavit was leaked to John Lehmann, the media writer for The Australian, who was yesterday appointed editor-in-chief of The Bulletin, which is part of the PBL empire.”

Which begs the question: why didn’t The Australian
publish the contents of the affidavit on Monday? Did the delay have
anything to do with Rupert Murdoch being given the award of the most
influential Australian by the PBL-owned Bulletin magazine at a lunch at Machiavelli restaurant on Monday?

Or was the delay something to do with this story, which broke on Tuesday afternoon and was reported baldly in TheAustralian today:

The Australian‘s media writer John Lehmann has
secured one of the most prized positions in magazine publishing with
his appointment yesterday as editor-in-chief of the Packer Empire’s The Bulletin.

One
of the most important ingredients of success in the Australian media
business is knowing which side your bread is buttered on. The slippery
problem comes when it’s buttered on both sides.
