Everyone should take a cold shower, says Helen Coonan. Ditto, says Graeme Samuel. The current round of media deals have nothing to do with the new laws, says the PM. The same people who a few weeks ago were telling us the cross-media laws would be a non event are sticking to their guns.
But this morning one of the lowest hanging fruits on the media vine has revealed it’slooking to be plucked. Southern Cross Broadcasting (SBC), the company behind 2UE and 3AW, and Channel Nine Adelaide, told the market it has commenced “exploratory” discussions with “a number of other media organizations”, none of which were named.
“The ASX has insisted that the company make a release regarding discussions it may have had with other media companies,” SBC said. Southern Cross was down 25c at $14.50 this morning.
Just another quiet day in media land.
