While the NSW Nurses Association blows $1 million of its members’ funds on advertising to keep the Sussex Street gravy train rolling, the National Union of Workers has thrown the switch to vaudeville.
The NUW spends its members’ levies on camping up Peter Debnam via the Village People – In the Liberals.
Videosendups.com looks like it could be an alternative to YouTube in the making – but it only has the one clip.
On the union’s list of membership benefits there was no mention of supporting political satire or helping Michael Costa remain treasurer, but maybe that just comes with the union territory.
The nurses’ union television ads are at least noticeable – unlike the Liberal Party campaign. Having a million to donate to commercial television though could mean nurses’ union dues are too high while their pay remains too low. Heavens knows what the nurses we’re shipping in from the third world to make up the numbers must think about this particular use of income.
Come to think of it, have I noticed any Liberal advertising? There must have been some… nah, nothing worth mentioning. One can’t help suspecting the federal party has simply given up on the state branch, keeping all available powder dry for the big one later this year.
If that is the case, it would be understandable. All indications are that the state organisation is more interested in its own membership and positions than winning an election anyway.
