Due to their penchant for copy-sharing, Crikey has long referred to Fairfax stablemates The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age by their conjoined twin name: The Smage.
Fairfax, for its part, is always keen to reinforce the perception of distance between the two.
As recently as last Friday’s Crikey, chief spinner Bruce Wolpe was vehemently denying fresh rumours that the Fairfax/Rural Press Canberra bureaus (SMH, Age and Canberra Times) will be merged.
So, perhaps, Fairfax employees simply haven’t seen the circular.
This stuff-up, which plays into the paranoia, was seen on page 17 of yesterday’s Money lift-out in The Age:
