In terms of form reversals, it doesn’t get much more dramatic than this. When Crikey first published the AFL Hot Form Chart, Brisbane sat friendless in 16th spot, September action about as likely as credible political use of YouTube.

After five wins on the trot, the Lions are now in the AFL top 8 and sit behind only the juggernaut that is Geelong on Crikey’s Hot Form Chart. It’s a come-from-the-dead story to warm John Howard’s heart … if only he had Jonathan Brown on his front bench.

To be fair, other results went Brisbane’s way, most notably the Bulldogs-Saints draw on Friday night. Sharing the points has left both clubs still standing from a finals perspective, but looking pretty wobbly just the same.

The Saints need to fix up Sydney at home this weekend to stay in the mix. Never an easy assignment and made all the more difficult in light of Sydney’s meteoric climb up the Hot Form Chart. In two weeks, the Swans have shot from tenth to third.

Upsets in both the Showdown and the Derby have set up some intriguing round 19 clashes for our friends from South and West Australia. After being beaten up by little brother, West Coast take on the Kangas in Melbourne, who are also on the rebound. Port Power should account for Carlton as should Freo for Essendon but with the Dockers, you never know if you’re getting Norman Bates or his mother.

As for the Crows, Crikey’s Hot Form Chart is tipping Geelong to finish their season in the cold, wind-swept surrounds of Skilled Stadium.
