The answer is simple: a Moorabbin moral dilemma.

Saints supporters will be hopping on the black and white bandwagon on Friday night and cheering hard for the Magpies. It might leave a bad taste in the mouth, but it will be one worth swallowing should Collingwood triumph over Adelaide and hand the Saints one last shot at September.

Any other result will see the Crows (previously written off by this column) into the finals and St Kilda free to spend their weekends dissecting the form of the dish-lickers like the rest of the country.

With the minor premiership already safely in the Cats’ claws, the other notable variable is the exact make up of the top 4. According to Crikey’s Crystal Ball, Geelong will take on Hawthorn and the Eagles will host Port Adelaide, who are fast becoming masters of the last-gasp victory.

The elimination finals will see the Kangas battle the Saints and Collingwood resume hostilities with the Swans at the MCG.

And, after packing them in pretty tight at the MCG last weekend, Essendon bids its final farewell to Messrs Sheedy and Hird at Subiaco on Saturday. Expect jacket waving and dry eyes from the locals.
