The Wall Street Journal reports that as the financial crisis continues to dominate the newscycle, both candidates are trying to position themselves as economic leaders:
“The crisis on Wall Street and renewed attention to the nation’s economic woes have created new opportunity for Barack Obama to regain control of the campaign debate after weeks of being on the defensive against John McCain.
“Polls continue to show that voters trust the Democratic presidential candidate more than his Republican opponent on handling the economy, though the gap has narrowed in recent weeks. Even some Republican consultants say that financial anxiety tends to favor Sen. Obama — just as recent attention to the Georgian war, and then to Sarah Palin, gave a lift to Sen. McCain.
