Members of various mailing lists administered by pesky online advocates GetUp had a word or two from David Hicks in their inboxes today.
Dear ……,
“G’day I’m David Hicks. I’d like to thank all GetUp members who helped me get out of the hell that was Guantanamo Bay….”
David Hicks has chosen to break his silence by speaking directly to GetUp members — watch his video message to you here:
Crikey readers can have a listen too.

If you’re going to nit-pick, he pleaded guilty, so you’d have to say he was convicted. Yes, after being in Guantanamo for that long, almost any pragmatic human would plead guilty if it meant getting out of there.
I’d really like to buy David Hicks a beer….
Everyone in Australia needs to start reading the many books and major reports about the GITMO hell hole and start thinking about what was done to Hicks in our names by our so-called great ally.
Instead we have news readers blathering on about “convicted terrorist David Hicks who was captured in Afghanistan.” Except that he is not convicted of anything, he was not captured and he was tortured for half a decade for no reason.
But why let the truth get in the way of a good yarn and a victim to persecute ad nauseum and ad infinitum?
Especially the moron Neil James who will write to Crikey to point out all the crimes of the dangerous David Hicks ad nauseum and ad infinitum. Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow Neil James will do this.
For the benefit of James again – Hicks was not convicted of anything, he was bought by the US after doing precisely nothing and when he was in Afghanistan the US were funding and training the Taliban to kick out the mujihadeen so they could build a pipeline from the Caspian Sea.
The attack on Afghanistan was decided in July 2001 and funding for the Taliban ceased in August 2001.
I can’t wait to see the ongoing nonsense by James tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow though.
So would I, Brent! Now that the AFP has acted fairly and humanely by not reapplying for the Control Order, David Hicks, who made some wrong decisions years ago, can, at long last, become a normal citizen. Let’s not forget US Major Michael Mori who fought so long and hard on his behalf.
I’d like to see David Hicks extradited to India for his activities with the LET terror group.
Buy him a pint, yeah I’d like to too, at the airport departure lounge for India.
Sheesh – what kind of poster boy for terror do some people need ?
He confessed in letters to his father what he was up to.
As for the Americans , well you should thank them for not executing him on the spot.
Poor misunderstood boy Dawood my rear.
