Disunity, policy confusion and bad polls, otherwise known as the natural state of first term Opposition, got Malcolm Turnbull back up to number two for the first time in quite a while nearing the end of what has been a roller coaster ride of a year for the battler’s friend.

As we near the end times, the Member for Dawson will undoubtedly remind us in his Christmas message what a broad but literal church the ALP is, at least in North Queensland; while that other rowdy lad from coastal climes, NSW State National Andrew Fraser, might shout us all some punch.

Chris Evans, Steve Fielding and Christopher Pyne, the big movers this week at the less “quirky” end of politics: Evans thanks to Detention Centres, Fielding for keeping everyone in the Senate guessing and Pyne thanks to his blindingly fast footwork on the National Schools Curriculum. Holy Handout Batman.

Is Mr Sunshine from Sunrise still a little better known to some punters than the Opposition Leader? And Nathan Rees back to the spot usually reserved for the NSW Premier.
