If the sickest stunt of the past week belonged to The Chaser, Senator Fielding Goes To Washington wasn’t far behind.
It was, says the Senator, a “Fact Finding Tour” …
We all know there are arguments which suggest climate change is because of pollution.
But equally there are scientists saying climate change is naturally occurring.
Either way until we have more of an understanding of the science and the economic implications I don’t believe the parliament can make an informed decision on a carbon cap until at least the end of the year.
Actually, Senator, your premise is wrong. The climate change issue is no longer about science. It is about insurance.
Enough reputable scientists — let’s conservatively say a number better than 20% of all reputable scientists in the world — have voted in favour of the existence of human-induced climate change. Even if the other 80% believed the climate was not changing, or that the change was not the result of human activity (and in reality their number is closer to 8%, not 80), there is more than enough scientific consensus to make this debate about one factor and one factor only: mitigation against risk.
The world is way beyond debating the science of climate change as a prerequisite for political action. Enough scientific expertise has validated the case to make it — like the possibility of cyclones, earthquakes and other events of nature — strictly about the size of the insurance premium.
Senator Fielding Goes To Washington was a futile mission based on a misguided assumption. He should have gone to Hartford, Connecticut instead. It’s the home of the global insurance industry.
Thinking about Stephen Fielding for a minute – go on, do it now if you can bear it – very quickly leads you to the conclusion that a double dissolution would be a very wonderful thing if only because it would lead that bewildered bunny back to the total obscurity from whence he came.
It would be good for him too: he could go back to being a god-botheror 24/7. And god, who has observable masochistic tendencies, would love that.
Oh well said David!
To put a slightly different religious slant on it I think Fielding is living proof of the Buddhist doctrine of re-birth. Fielding is surely a reincarnation of the late and unlamented Senator Albert Field – another total non entity and a man of quite sublime stupidity appointed to the Senate by Joh Bjelke-Petersen.
who paid his fare to go there was it the far right
So, Fielding, having never bothered to even take a passing glance at the real science, goes to the U.S. to vist a coven of extreme right loonies funded by the fossil fuel industry (yes the same guys who are arguing that tobacco isn’t bad for your health), gets the latest mish-mash of loony-tunes flat earth bollocks from them and then comes back talking about sun-spots. Don’t worry about him being briefed by the Aussie scientists, he’s too stupid to understand. There are many people like this, but only the Rudd Labor party could shoehorn one into the Senate despite next to nobody voting for him. That’s right folks, its loony tunes senator fielding brought to you by (cue wacky warner brothers music) the laaaabor party. That’s what you get for not preferencing the greens when you should have! Fielding is an idiot, and we are paying for it, he should donate his salary back to the public and crawl back to what ever hole he came out of (oh I forgot, it was the labor parties hind quarters-thanks again Kev).
I’m waiting for his next trip to O.S. where he heads off to whatever bunch of pointy head freaks is having a shindig and comes back with “evidence” and “graphs” that shows that the space landings were faked, the earth is flat, JFK and Elvis are being held captive in Cuba and Richmond will win the granny this year. He should be locked up with Marn Fersun, Craig Emerson, Barnaby Joyce, Nick Minchin along with the stooges writing on this stuff for the Austrayn and they should be made to listen to each other till they all go mad.
Can we just get to the next election please and ditch this expensive twerp!
“The world is way beyond debating the science of climate change as a prerequisite for political action.”
Well! why is it sceptics have won every debate there’s been?
