A Senator’s media wordplay. South Australian Senator Mary Jo Fisher usually likes to get her wordplay on in the Senate. But emailed to the press gallery yesterday was this chestnut of a media release title — a stretch even by her standards: ‘NBN = no body (k)nows. Nobody knows answers to Labor’s NBN.’ Gold star for effort, Senator! — a Crikey reader
Australia shamed for internet censorship plans
“A top media rights watchdog has listed Australia along with Iran and North Korea in a report on countries that pose a threat of internet censorship.” — The Straits Times
Newspaper in multimedia election push
“The Advertiser is launching what it claims will be the country’s largest scale multimedia coverage of an election campaign which will include live streaming video around the South Australian election.” — Mumbrella
Newman’s climate change speech continues to make waves
I’m all for giving opposing views equal measure, but it’s credibility that needs to be quantified rather than time. A 15-minute interview with a highly renowned climate scientist pointing to evidence of global warming on Catalyst should be taken to task, but not by Andrew Bolt on Insiders. — Groupthink
Is Chatroulette the next big net marketing platform?
“What kind of brand would want to associate with Chatroulette? Well, French Connection — of FCUK fame — would, and the UK-based clothing retailer is using the random, anonymous chat room for a marketing push.” — Advertising Age
Reuters “updates” social media guidelines to its staffers
“The entire set of guidelines – which you can read here — give a fascinating glimpse into a major media company — like plenty of others — struggling with how to police the social part of social media.” — Media Alley
The long line of celebs who’ve declared they’re packing their bags over politics
“Rush Limbaugh promised his listeners Tuesday that he would abandon the US in five years if President Barack Obama passed his health care plan. His destination? Costa Rica, a country that also has government-run health care. Just don’t tell Rush. By promising to vamoose, Limbaugh placed himself in unusual company — the kind of arty liberals he usually trashes.” — The Daily Beast
Australia cannot be shamed enough as far as I am concerend. The cat is well and truly out of the bag on media censorship – it is not about kiddie porn and never was. When Conroy blacklisted Wikileaks he confirmed what internet censorship Australlian style is really about. It is about making sure the dummies living here don’t catch on to what is really going on. America in my view is rapidly becoming a fascist state and we their unthinking satrap simply follow like lockstep ninnies. Without Wikileaks there will be no whistle to blow!
