New Zealand sauvignon blanc has become Australian chardonnay’s biggest predator. It now represents 70% of total bottled sauvignon blanc in Australia, according to The Courier-Mail.
And this is growing at a rate of 35.9%, which seems crazy given that Aussie chardonnays are better than ever.
But what if you want to try some quality NZ wine without contributing to the sav blancmange?
Say hello to some choice pinot as Cheers TV hosts and independent sommeliers Dan Sims and Ben Edwards conduct a drinking tour of the North and South Islands. Warning: this episode will give you diurnal fluctuations. (No sav blancs were harmed in this tasting.)
